Culture, Community & Connection

Supporting NDIS Participants Through Samoan Values, Multicultural Identity & Inclusive Community Care

What does culture mean to us?

Culture sits at the heart of everything we do at Tautua Support Services. We believe that every person deserves support that feels familiar, safe, respectful, and culturally empowering. Rooted in the Samoan concept of Tautua, our programs and supports are designed to strengthen identity, honour culture, and create a sense of belonging for NDIS participants across South-East Queensland and Melbourne.

We recognise that all our participants come from different backgrounds, and with the necessary approvals, we embed this into your personalised care plan. Your identity is something to be celebrated, and we strive to help you achieve that.

Led by faith-based values, we travel alongside our participants on a journey of discovery and growth.

We believe in today's society that it is more important than ever to connect and respect one another's identity, to embrace the beauty of all cultures as one people.

We are guided by the ancient Samoan proverb “O le ala i le pule o le tautua”
'The pathway to progress is through service.'

This principle shapes every interaction, every support, and every community gathering. We serve with humility, respect, and love, which in turn creates an environment where participants feel uplifted, understood, and connected.

Supporting Multicultural NDIS Participants

Australia is home to hundreds of cultures, and so are we. Our support workers represent a diverse mix of Samoan, Pasifika, Indigenous, Māori, Asian, African, Middle Eastern, and Australian communities.

This diversity strengthens our ability to deliver:

  • culturally responsive programs

  • language-sensitive communication

  • inclusive community access support

  • identity-affirming engagement

  • safe spaces for expression and belonging

Many participants come from multicultural families, and we ensure they are supported by a team who genuinely understands the importance of culture, community and family in the NDIS journey.

Samoan Values in Disability Support

As a Samoan-led organisation, we bring cultural principles that deeply resonate with families and communities:

  • Alofa (Love): Care delivered with genuine compassion.

  • Tautua (Service): Serving others is the highest calling.

  • Aiga (Family): Participants become part of our extended family.

  • Fa’aaloalo (Respect): Honouring identity, culture, and personal dignity.

  • Lotu (Faith): Strengthening connection, hope, and community.
